–  Anzac  –
a haiku sequence

     Anzac Park
an ibis on one leg
   faces the wind

    Anzac day eve
a currawong watches us
    clean the cenotaph

    cold wind
the young bugler
    licks his lips

    first file, second rank
a child's shirt sags
    with medals

    last post
two rosellas rise
    from the grass

    a purple patch
among cenotaph wreaths –
    Paterson's Curse

    memorial obelisk
more names
    than town residents

    sunny verandah
sewing up his medal bar
    she pricks her finger

    Anzac march
the baker's father
    takes the salute

    warm sunshine
I button up my coat
    before last post

    two minutes silence
a south-easterly
    rattles the halyard

    Anzac speech
his daughter wanders away
    to the swings
